Last week, I had a great opportunity to enjoy a performance from Joshua Redman Quartet. I was invited by a good friend. I had never heard of Joshua Redman, but my friend told me great things about this artist. I did listen to a couple songs from Joshua Redman solo and viewed a few clips on Youtube to prepare myself.

"L" and I texted each other about our excitement concerning the upcoming concert. L told me their history with Joshua Redman's music and how is one of their favorite musicians. I was honored that they shared something precious with me. When someone shares their favorite artist with you, that means something special in the friendship. Music is precious and you can't just share your playlist with everybody.

During the week I decided I was going to wear a red dress with a nice pearl necklace. I wanted to look fabulous but I didn't want to be overdressed. L gave me a hint about their outfit and hairstyle. We both decided to surprise each other with our outfits. Melismatic euphoria filled my week with excitement about this concert.

Welp the night of the concert comes and L picks me up from the Professor's(Bae) place. L and I had a fashion extravaganza. L had on a nice brown blazer with a black top, slacks, and some nice black Doc Marten loafers. They were sharp. There I was with my red dress and black heels. We finally got in the car and passed the peace back and forth. L and I had wonderful conversation. It felt good hanging with a friend in this horrendous times. I promised myself earlier in this year to Friendship gives misery a good ass kicking. We listened to a few pieces from the Joshua Redman Quartet until we arrived to the venue.

We finally arrived to the venue. As we got out the car and proceeded to walk the video from the parking lot, I noticed a white woman, staring and ogling at myself and L. I just chalked it up to us looking so damn good and not transphobia. We finally entered into the venue. There we partook of some great art exhibits and fine wine.

The art exhibit included art from Black and Indigenous people. There was one art piece of a Black woman. It was made with acrylic and crushed glass. There words such as "beautiful," "strength," and "Freedom" in the background. The pianting is called "Essence" by DC based artist Simone Agoussoye. I did not include a picture here out of respect for the artists work.

Then it was showtime! L and I braved the line to enter into the concert hall. The concert hall was spacious and beautiful. The acoustics were more than perfect for the impending musical experience. As scheduled, here comes Joshua Redman and the gang ready to serenade the crowd.

The band opened up with an easy peace. I didn't get the names of all of the songs, but I did take a note of the melody and overal essence of the song for later reference. Each song captured our attention and took us on a walk to the store, a journey in nature, and even on a romantic venture.

Of course there was an intermission and "L" and I ventured out into more parts of the art exhibit. There were more pieces that we enjoyed and even took some pictures.

Upon returning from intermission, we were once more taken on another musical journey. One piece that stood out to me is the piece lead off by bassist, Philip Norris, "Words Fall Short." Philip Norris plucks the strings with determination and grace as he articulates the piece. The band then joins in and adds music to where "Words Fall Short." This was one of my favorite pieces of the evening. "Words Fall Short" led us into a toe tapping, spirit filled evening.

The show was wonderful. L and I partook of the art gallery once more and headed to the care where we debriefed about the show and passed the peace before grabbing a bite to eat. We listened to a little bit more of Joshua Redman and we chatted more about life and our plans.

I hate a great evening with L. I look forward to another concert with a new friend.

I've included some pictures of the Quartet on stage. Sorry for the blur.
